Father & Son David and Howard Walshaw farm 200 acres of arable and grassland and have a 200 head livestock enterprise in East Yorkshire, on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Wolds.
Their New Holland T6.180 Electro Command is currently on 1,250 hours and the tractor is worked hard on the farm, undertaking a variety of tasks including trailer work, round baling, primary cultivations, ploughing, fertiliser spreading and spraying.
‘We’ve run New Holland on the farm for several years’ says Howard. ‘They have proven to be a reliable tractor, and good value for money. We’ve price matched them against other brands and they are always competitive’.
‘We’ve stuck with New Holland not only because of that but because their tractors are ideally suited to our farm and the job we give them. They are small enough to do our small jobs, and big enough to undertake our biggest jobs. For the power of the tractor, it’s very nimble, and the power to weight ratio is impressive too’.
‘We want to support local dealerships, that also benefits us in terms of parts and also back up’ says David. ‘We don’t have the time to travel far, if at all, in the event of a breakdown, and Websters are 20 minutes down the road which works really well for us. It’s also important to us that we support a British manufacturer, we’ve previously run Fords and also David Brown on the farm’.
‘Machinery is kept relatively new and reliable’’ says Howard. ‘We got in touch with Will Wainwright at Websters to see what they had in stock. Will came out initially and was able to supply the model we were looking for. The sales process ran smoothly from initial enquiry to purchase’.
The T6.180 spends most of its time in Spring and Summer contract baling for customers, so comfort was an important factor for their new tractor purchase. ‘‘When I'm spending 12 hours a day on a tractor during silaging and harvest, it needs to be comfortable, and this tractor is!’.
‘We’ve had a couple of issues with the tractor but the back up provided by Websters has been second to none. They come out on the same day within a couple of hours, minimizing our downtime’.
‘We would certainly buy from Websters again. We recently attended a Claydon Evening that they hosted, which was really interesting. They work with the current trends and provide events where you can further your knowledge, and that’s important to us’.
